Training and Guidance

CIOFS-FP believes that offering a professional qualification or adequate skills to perform professional tasks is an important educational opportunity to help young people face the future and build hope for their own personal growth and for the development of the country.

CIOFS-FP vocational training aims to make the person suitable to carry out specific tasks and to have at their disposal the tools necessary to build, manage and develop their own professional and personal project. This is in close relation to emerging professional needs.

CIOFS-FP training offer is aimed at:

  • young people looking for training, qualification, integration
  • adults, especially women, looking for re-employment and vocational qualification
  • people with particular difficulties of social and occupational integration

 

Methodology

The style of education expressed in the preventive system of the Salesian tradition leverages the positive aspects of young people, their motivations and their dreams, to awaken the inner resources necessary to become “good Christians and honest citizens”. The methodological choice of CIOFS-FP puts the trainees immediately in a working context allowing their active participation in the construction of the path. The learning of the tasks and roles provided for by the qualification, takes place through an approach that builds around the vocational skills the knowledge and culture necessary for personal growth and social and occupational integration.

The operating procedures put in place in the provision of services concern:

  • the construction of a collaborative environment
  • the promotion of teamwork, both in the educational context with reference to the recipients and in the broader training context with reference to teachers, trainers and operators
  • the enhancement of autonomy and resourcefulness in the performance of the role or task assigned
  • the use of training methods that favour the experience in the field
  • the comparison with the territory
  • the prior study of evaluation criteria

The activity of the National Headquarters in agreement with the Regional Associations allows the research and constant updating of methodologies, the construction of paths and tools and the implementation of monitoring and evaluation of training actions and management in place in the VET Centres.

 

 

Vocational training

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) system represents the training offer of the Regions that allows the fulfilment of compulsory schooling. The training courses consist of three years, four years, and in the case of Lombardy, five years.

In addition to compulsory schooling, the courses provide a professional qualification that can be spent on the labour market thanks to the internship and guidance hours integrated into each training course. After the three-year qualification, it is possible to carry on with the fourth year, in the Regions where this is foreseen, in order to obtain a vocational diploma or to re-enter the educational paths in order to obtain a State diploma.

Lombardy is the only region at the moment that provides for a fifth year of preparation for the State Exam, allowing to continue the path within the Vocational Education and Training system.

The national system provides for 22 professional qualifications and 21 professional diplomas.

 

Training of trainers

The National Headquarters plans and provides training and refresher courses for operators of CIOFS-FP system. These are courses of variable duration (from a minimum of 8 hours to 150 hours over a period of two years), which are also carried out in e-learning mode.

In carrying out these activities, high standards of training are ensured through the selection of qualified staff. The provision of safe and adequate environments, the use of modern equipment and technologies and the evaluation of the effectiveness and satisfaction of the participants are taken care of.

The training offers are coordinated by the national headquarters of CIOFS-FP, responding to the training needs expressed by the operators themselves.
